Most of the sutures used in surgery are curved needles, which are mainly divided into Angle needles and round needles:

Angle needles are used to sew up the skin, and the tip is a tri-pyramid shape, which makes it easier to penetrate tough skin.

The round needle is mainly used for suturing tissues outside the skin. Because of its relatively soft quality, it does not need a triangular pyramid tip.

As far as trauma is concerned, horn needles are more traumatic than round needles, which is why some people use round needles to suture perineal skin (perineal skin is relatively soft).

Peak section of different stitches

In terms of the arc of the needle, the main commonly used are 3/8 arc and 1/2 arc.

Most of the Angle needles are 3/8 arc, which is more conducive to suturing the skin with more skin on both sides without needling;

The circular needle is more common in 1/2 arc, mainly because the circular needle is used to suture deep tissue. The operation of 1/2 arc is relatively small, and it is more flexible compared with 3/8.
